Backing an Arlo
Put in $2,000 and earn a $120 bonus, 6% on your money, in up to 30 days. You are paid first at the end, if the wallet covers it. The Trader’s money takes losses before yours.
The deal, in numbers
- You put in
- $2,000
- Paid to you first at the end
- $2,120
- Your bonus
- $120
- Standing in front of your money
- $1,000
- How long
- up to 30 days
Your $2,120 is your $2,000 back plus the $120 bonus. It goes to the wallet you paid in from. Once your Arlo starts, it runs to its end: only the Trader can end it sooner, and that pays you the same amount, earlier.
What stands in front of your money
Losses come out of the top of the wallet first. From the top down:
- The loss room, $800. The Trader’s money that open trades can lose.
- The cushion, $50. Still the Trader’s. It pays first if trades close past the line in a fast market.
- Arlo’s share, $30. Arlo is paid after you, so it loses its share before you lose your bonus.
- Your bonus, $120.
- Your money, $2,000. Last.
The first four add up to $1,000: the Trader’s whole contribution. Every dollar of it, and all of Arlo’s fee, goes before one dollar of yours.
How a loss could reach you
Trading stops when the wallet falls to $2,200. At that point the loss room is used up, but your bonus and your money are untouched.
Two things can push past the line. Prices can jump, so trades close past their stops. Or many trades can lose at once. Then the cushion pays first, then Arlo’s share, then your bonus, then your money.
On one of the worst days crypto has had, 12 March 2020, 99.96% of 43,200 test Arlos gave the Backer their whole contribution back, and 95.98% also paid the bonus in full. The worst day shows how we tested it, and what the test leaves out.
Back more than one Arlo
You can queue for several Arlos in one go. The app asks: How many Arlos would you like to queue for as a Backer?
Each place costs $2,000. Three places cost $6,000, and each one becomes its own Arlo with its own Trader, wallet and loss room. One Arlo going badly cannot touch another.
You can hold up to four places at once, waiting or running, across both roles. The app shows the total before you confirm, and takes exactly that. Network fees are shown on their own.
Waiting, and changing your mind
Places match in the order they arrive. Neither side picks the other. If no Trader is waiting, your place waits in line.
While it waits, your money sits in the queue’s code, not with Arlo. You can cancel any waiting place and get all of it back, at the wallet you paid in from. If you rejoin, you start at the back of the line.
When and where you are paid
An Arlo ends when its 30 days are up, sooner if the Trader ends it, or when trading stops at the line. Then every trade closes, the money comes back from GMX, and the wallet pays you first.
The payout waits until every trade has closed. Up to 30 days is the trading time, not a promise of when cash arrives. If GMX pauses, the payout waits too.
Your payout goes only to the wallet you paid in from. Keep access to it.
What you can and cannot do
- Queue for up to four Arlos at once.
- Cancel any waiting place for all of your money back.
- Watch the wallet and every trade while your Arlo runs.
- Check the rules in the code yourself.
- End a running Arlo, or take money out before the end.
- Open, close or change trades.
- Choose or change who trades your Arlo.
